Reasons to choose Linux as your next OS over any other.
If you need reliability on servers that run the internet or storing all the cloud data, Linux is the only way to go.
To add strength to the above statement, even Microsoft itself uses Linux to fuel the Azure cloud services.
1. Freedom
No licensing required nor specific hardware is required to use the Linux operating system.
There are thousands of people continuously submitting new code and features, apply fixes to improve the existing program. Thus contributing to the global community.
The other reason for Linux to be of free use, till date is the Linux Foundation which is backed by Google, Microsoft, Intel, IBM, many more.
The main goal of the Linux Foundation is to standardize Linux, support its growth, and prompt commercially.
2. Software Management
Linux uses package managers like apt, Pac-man, rpm, along with many others.
Package managers automate the install and uninstall process for software repositories and app stores.
Fact: App stores were in action from the early 1990s, long before Apple and Google announced them, thanks to Linux.
Linux gives flexibility to its users regarding the updates and security patches
and the user can choose when to update or never wishing to update.
And Linux uses something called a live kernel which means the complete operating system can be updated while it is running.
3. Performance
Linux can be used on various devices scaling from a supercomputer in the Google cloud facility to a toaster in your kitchen.
We can use the Linux with full Desktop experience in a raspberry Pi, thanks to Raspbian
4. Stability
Once configured and setting Linux system running, other than any catastrophic event, Linux will probably just keep running.
As said earlier Linux is open source, its the majority of its drivers are also open source, and all the bugs and errors will be fixed by the community as soon as it is released.
There are few exceptions like the blob(binary large object) drivers ex: Nvidia proprietary GPU drivers they are stable and running.
5. Spying, Privacy, and Transparency
Linux OS allows its users to see literally everything that is happening and monitoring everything that is moving in and from your system.
This kind of transparency is one of the main pillars of free open-source software.
6. Customization
Virtual Desktop, allows you to swap between arrangements of shortcut and running applications keeping everything organized and allowing you to focus on the task.
Virtual desktops were in Linux back in the early 2000s, keeping way ahead of its competitors.
7. The Command-line
This is the heart of Linux, there is bash, dash, and fish, and many other shells that allow users to run various functions of your chosen distro and even automate some of the tasks.
As the user can write and implement the scripts to the user, imagination is the limit.
The terminal is meant for efficiency as everything can be controlled from one place no unnecessary clicks
Input, Output, And Error data can be viewed and interpreted in one place.
8. Portability
Troubleshooting is easy with the Light-weight OS
We can run Linux on a live USB.
Using Linux we can switch between several distro's as the configuration is stored in a config directory
9. Learning
Linux is a great platform to learn on
There are various tools and services which makes Linux usable
And Linux enables users to make GUI applications easy to make.
10. Community
The Linux community is growing exponentially past few years.
This helps the newcomers (as many of us are) In coding and other tasks done on different Linux distro's
There is almost 2% growth, from the last 10 years
